1. When and how you began to play music? Who or what made you to like metal? First album you bought and first metal gig you visited?
Heavy music became my hobby for long-long time ago. First gigs I visited with my father were Nazareth, Uriah Heep, Yngwie Malmsteen - and that happened when I was 4-7 years old! So in elementary school I could already tell that music is only ROCK! Of course, it's not so radical now, but now I mostly listen to metal and just good rock.
So my first album I bought was a tape of Metallica, some compilation called Seek and Destroy. I listened to Scorpion vinyls of my father at that time, but this tape just brought me in the world of real metal! Scorpions are a good deal milder )) I was impressed by unleashed drive of the music, which seemed like a gulp of fresh air after rock albums.
For a good deal of time I was just a metalhead, but in high school my school mates went to a guitar class and took me with them. I didn't want to go, but they told me they needed a bassist and that's me. ))) A year past and only I continued to play guitar.
2. Bands you play/played with except Svartby?
That school band was my first band. It even didn't have a name and soon was gone. When the guys left I found another musicians and we tried to rehearse our own material. Finally I joined Nordlicht, who played brutal-death metal, which became my first serious project. After 3 years I left it and never played anywhere except Svartby by now.
3. What instrument do you have now? Why this choice? What is your most desired instrument?
Now i use ESP guitar. I always wanted ESP cause it is a real metal instrument without compromise! With not a single compromise actually ))) Didn't think much about its shape, just took what I liked. My plans are to buy Dean or Gibson guitar.
4. Can you play any other instruments?
No I can't. Only if for lulz ))
5. Favorite music
Metal, in the end of all. Sometimes I like to listen to hard rock or rock'n'roll on a party. Won't name any particular bands - there are many, and each has something good to listen to. I'm not a fan of any special band.
6. Musicians you admire with
Devin Townsend - he's the man who can write music in most incompatible styles. And not only to write but mix it in the way you understand is really cool! James Hetfield and Kirk Hammet. Everything's clear with these two. Can't forget Steve Harris, Bruce Dickinson and Adrian Smith. Everything's clear with this gang also. I must add Phil Anselmo - he's a perfect and powerful genius vocalist, and Dimebag Darrell - he lived with the music and died on a stage, leaving us an enormous legacy.
7. Which band would you like to share a stage with?
As I spoke before, it's hard for me to name a single band in the row of metal bands. I'd like to share the stage with Disturbed, Iron Maiden, Rage, Slayer or Mastodon, preferably on a big festival like Wacken, MetalCamp or Tuska.
8. Favorite food and beverage
It's hard to tell what is my favorite food, but I like different meat dishes and mold cheese. I'm not original in drinks: whiskey and tequila, different fruit juices.
9. Hobbies and passions.
I have only one passion. MUSIC!!! Hobbies? Well, good walks or bike rides, the farther - the better. And collecting music cds.
10. Which country would you like to visit? Do you have a country of your dreams?
Actually I don't have a country of my dreams. Maybe it's the country where they all can leave me alone and you can forget about everyone and everything except my family, friends and musicians. As for a country to visit - I'd like to go to Italy and Norway.
11. Life philosophy
Go forth, but sometimes stop and look back - maybe you passed something important? And be honest with yourself.
